Are you a thrill-seeker who’s always looking for the most challenging things you can do to pass your time?
Do you have a desire to bring home a huge paycheck every payday?
If so, you might want to check out what could well be the most dangerous civilian job on planet earth…
I’m sure you’ve noticed those high tension power lines that span great distances between massive steel towers.
Well, those high tension power lines have to be inspected at regular intervals to ensure that they’re safe and in proper working condition.
And since turning off the power to those wires would plunge hundreds of thousands of people into darkness and shut down thousands of businesses, those lines must be inspected while they’re “live”.
In case you’re wondering what “live” means exactly, it means there will be up to 500,000 volts of electricity on those wires while the inspectors are checking them out.
Yes, you read that right. Those massive high voltage power lines you see overhead are carrying up to half a million volts!
Sound scary? Well, it is, especially when you consider that the inspectors have to be in actual contact with the wires while they’re checking them out!
What’s more, those power lines are several hundred feet above the earth in places, which adds yet another element of danger to the job.
As you might imagine, the folks that inspect our high voltage power lines earn a great living. And they earn it indeed!
