Have you ever found yourself needing to open a tin can but for whatever reason you didn’t have a can opener available?
I have too, and it can be very frustrating.
I’ve since learned that there’s a simple way to open most any tin can using nothing but an ordinary metal spoon like the ones in your silverware drawer.
I could explain how to do this step-by-step, but I’ve found an excellent short video that shows how it’s done much better than I could ever hope to explain it.
But before I share the video, a quick word of caution…
Using a spoon to open a tin can is a bit more dangerous than using a can opener.
Therefore, you need to be extremely careful. And to be extra safe, you might want to put on a pair of thick gloves!
After all, it’s better to go hungry for a few hours than to spend an evening at the ER getting stitched up. Just sayin’.
Now that the obligatory warning is out of the way, check out the short video below to see how easy it is to open a tin can with a standard metal spoon.
Note: As always, you can watch the video at full screen by clicking the “square” icon that will pop up in the lower-right corner of the video after it begins playing.
Pretty cool, right?
This method works well in a pinch, but of course it’s much better to use a real can opener if you have one available.
If you’re in the market for a good one, I recommend that you check out this awesome can opener from Hamilton Beach. It’s far and away the best one I’ve ever seen!
