Do you often suffer sticker-shock at the grocery store when the cashier tells you how much you owe?
Well, there isn’t much you can do about the amount of groceries you buy. After all, you and your family members have to eat!
But that being said, there are some things you can do to lower your grocery bill, such as buying off-brands for some items and buying in bulk when your favorite foods go on sale.
But there’s another very simple trick you can use to possibly lower your total grocery bill even more: Simply look down (and up) while you’re shopping!
Why? Well, the grocery stores want you to purchase the most expensive (and usually the most profitable) items instead of their cheaper counterparts.
To that end, they place the most profitable items at eye level where they’re easily and quickly seen.
Many shoppers never bother to look down (or up) to see if there are any cheaper alternatives available.
And that’s a huge mistake because you can often save quite a bit simply by choosing a brand that’s located closer to the floor or higher up on the shelf.
And you don’t necessarily have to always buy an off-brand item in order to save money on your purchases.
In fact, many times you can buy another name brand that’s just as good as the most expensive brand, for a lot less.
Here’s a little experiment for you…
The next time you go grocery shopping, find an item that you always purchase by default, then look at shelves above and below it.
Chances are you’ll find a similar item that’s just as good for a much lower price!
Now all of the above being said, if you really prefer a certain brand because you like its taste the best or if it’s healthier for you, by all means go ahead and buy it even though it costs more.
After all, life is short. Buy the things you love the most even if it makes your grocery bill a little higher than it has to be. You can always save money on other items that aren’t as important to you.
To finish up, here’s a fantastic short video featuring several other ways to save money on your grocery bills.

Bonus tip: Not all coupons will save you money. In fact, some of them will actually cause you to pay more! This post explains why.
