China is a vast country, and as you might expect it has its fair share of exotic natural features.

Q&A: Why don’t the oceans keep getting saltier?

Question from Kelly:  In school they taught us that the earth’s rivers are constantly dumping salt into the oceans.

If that’s true why aren’t the oceans getting saltier?

It seems to me that after all these billions of years the water in the oceans should be too salty to even support sea life.

So why don’t the oceans keep getting saltier as more and more salt is carried down the rivers and deposited in the oceans? Surely I’m missing something?

Guess what? You’re constantly moving (and you’re moving really, really fast)!

Compared to some of our animal friends, we humans are a pretty slow bunch.

In fact, the world’s fastest human to date was clocked at well less than 30 miles per hour (MPH).

That’s less than half as fast as the fastest land animals and several times slower than the fastest birds.

But guess what? Every human being (and everything else on planet earth) is constantly moving at astounding speeds – even those who are standing still, sitting in an easy chair or lying in bed!

Attached to the vertical face of China’s Mount Hua is a “hiking trail” that consists of nothing but wooden planks.

The “Plank Road in the Sky” is some 7,000 feet above the valley floor below, yet it’s only a few inches wide!
