Q&A: Why is the capitol of the United States on the east coast instead of near the center of the country?

Posted on February 12, 2020

Question from Beth:  I’ve always wondered why we use Washington, DC as the capitol of the United States instead of a city that’s closer to the middle of the country.

Can you tell me why they chose to use a city on the east coast?

Q&A: Why is house wiring made out of copper even though aluminum is a lot cheaper?

Posted on December 17, 2019

Question from Carl: I just bought a 250 foot roll of 12/3 electrical wire at Lowes, and it cost me an arm and a leg.

That got me to wondering why house wiring is made out of copper instead of aluminum even though aluminum is a LOT cheaper than copper?

It seems to me that switching to aluminum would save people a ton of money when it came time to build a new house or remodel an old one.

Q&A: Why are Mac computers never referred to as PCs?

(#ad)

Question from Oliveen:  I’d like to ask a really dumb question (because I’m a dummy when it comes to technology lol).

I’m always seeing computers from HP, Dell, Acer and most every other computer manufacturer being referred to as a PC but no one ever refers to their Mac as a PC.

Why is that?

Q&A: Why do people who live in hot climates prefer spicy foods?

Posted on November 18, 2019

Question from Lawrence:  I was trying to decide what to order at a Thai restaurant the other day and I noticed that most of the dishes on the menu were spicy (as in hot).

That got me to wondering why people from countries with hot climates seem to prefer spicy foods.

You’d think something spicy would be the last thing you’d want to eat if you lived in a place where it’s hot all the time.

So what’s the deal with people in hot countries wanting to eat spicy foods? Am I missing something?

Q&A: Why don’t you ever write about politics on your blogs?

Posted on October 22, 2019

Question from Rodney:  I’ve been reading your blogs for a long time now Rick, and I’ve noticed that you write about just about everything.

But one thing I’ve never seen you write about is politics. Why is that?

I love your perspective on so many topics and I’m sure you could make some great arguments about our country’s politicians.

I don’t know, maybe you’re just not a political kind of person. But I’d be surprised if that’s the case.
